The title of this article is 100 per cent correct and also you read it correctly. Most of us don’t know the fact that the rooster is not required to produce egg within the hen. Many animals including human beings need no male partners to produce eggs. Egg production is a physiological phenomenon of a female of a mammal. The partner is only needed to fertilize the eggs. In other words, the table purpose eggs don’t require cocks in a chicken coop.

If you’re going to use the eggs for table purpose only, you don’t need males in your coop. On other hand, if you do require eggs for hatching, then you should have at least one male for 10-20 females in your chicken coop.

My advice for the first timers of raising chicken is that they don’t require roosters for their backyard farm because the roosters not only going to produce fertilized egg, but also waking up to the lovely sound of a rooster crowing in the morning. Moreover, the roosters crow throughout the day, which will bother you and your neighbours.

How to Maintain the Chicken Coop?

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>
By now we have discussed great deal of information about the chicken coop building, hence it is time to discuss about the maintenance of the coop. You must have put in your best efforts to construct the chicken coop and must have positioned it also as per the guide lines discussed already. The chicken coop will disintegrate sooner than latter if proper maintenance was not done. The maintenance and the repair work of the chicken coop are not all that difficult if proper care is taken on regular basis.

Pay attention to the door

The door of the chicken coop should be cared the most as it is the only part in the coop that will be moving too often. This is because you will be going inside the coop for feeding, watering, taking the eggs etc. Hence the door of the coop should be watched carefully. In case the latch is lose, repair it immediately and if required replace it completely. If the door is giving problems to you often, then there is no harm in replacing the door with new one. Let the door be designed according to the usage of the farmer in order to minimize the wear and tear of the door by unwanted usage.

Checking the fence

The structure of the fence should be watched regularly next to the door. The fence should be completely checked at least once in a month. In case the chicken coop area is full of predators, the sturdiness of the fence should be assessed more often. The fences are more prone for walking and hence more around the fence and check each and every part with care. If there is any gap or weak part, just correct the same without wasting anytime. The predator may gain entry through that weak spots and play havoc.

Check the feeders

The feeders placed in side the chicken coop should be checked on regular basis. As these feeders are going to be in use every day, more care is definite requirement, is it not? In some coop the feeders placed may be bent or tilted which is a warning signal and hence the feeder should be immediately replaced. The feeders are more likely to be damaged as there will be a constant fight among the chickens for the food. The height of the chicken feeder also needs to be monitored regularly. The chicken will be growing regularly and the feeder height should be adjusted according to the height of the chicken. The chicken should feed comfortably which will result in good yield of eggs. Right height of the chicken will prevent the feed wastage also. Just adjusting the feeder height to one inch or two will result in extraordinary results.

One should never neglect the maintenance of the chicken coop. the maintenance of mobile chicken coop is much easier compared to the maintenance of the fixed chicken coop. In case of fixed chicken coop, all one has to do is regular maintenance check, nothing else.

Protecting your Chicken within Chicken Coop

By now I am of the firm opinion that you should be having sufficient knowledge on the chicken coop, building material, building process etc. you should also know how to protect the chickens housed inside. If this knowledge is lacking the very purpose of the chicken coop idea will go awry. The chickens housed should be comfortable and must have sufficient light and ventilation. The chickens should be protected from the predators.

One must be wondering what he or she should do to protect the chickens housed in the chicken coop. here are few information on that. If the chickens are not protected, the predators will come at them sooner than latter. For this one should have clear idea about the potential predators of the chicken at that area. The predators are the creatures like foxes, larger dogs, coyotes, rodents etc. these predators may try to enter the chicken coop by digging the ground around the fence there by getting entry. In case you are at a new place and are not aware of the predators roaming around in those area, just have a discussion with the person living nearby and request his experience with the predator. The knowledge of the predator will help you to design the plan to thwart the attempt of the predator, is it not?

Location

It is very essential to select the best location for planning a chicken coop. we have already discussed about the landscape required for the chicken coop, but not have discussed about the location proximity to the house of the owner. The chicken coop placed closer to the house of the owner is the best. If the chicken coop is within the eye range, the owner or the attendant could reach the coop faster to chase away the predator. Portable chicken coops are very useful here as they can be moved inside the house at night there by preventing the predator attack to bare minimum.

Type of fence

The type of fence is vital in protecting the chicken from the predators. For this one should be aware of the predator living nearby. Depending on the type of predator the chicken coop fence needs to be planned. In case the predators are digging animals then, design the chicken coop at ground level so that the digging predator can not perform his act effectively to reach to the chickens. In case you are anticipating larger animals attack, the fence of the chicken coop should be sturdy enough to withstand the force of the predator.

That is why we are of the opinion that the person who is planning to have chicken coop should follow proper guide lines so that he or she can construct a chicken coop which attractive and at the same type good enough to protect the chickens from the predators.

So the best advise we want to give to those want to have chicken coop is that they should be always keep in mind the protection of the chickens. Building very attractive looking chicken coop will not suffice. If the predator damages the coop and take away the chicken the entire plan will go waste. The money spent on will be an absolute waste. Hence plan a chicken coop properly.

How to build a chicken coop that will last?

Now, you must have learned about different types of chicken coops and various types of materials that can be used for the chicken coop building. Now it is the time to learn about the things to do to maintain the structural integrity of the chicken coop of yours. Many are good at building a chicken coop that looks very attractive using good building material. But those are puzzled to find out the reason for the coop withering away very soon not lasting long. To solve this problems those human beings should understand the coop building process better. These people should understand the requirement of the chicken coop to weather the wear and tear. Let’s discuss about it here.

Proper landscaping

The landscape on which the chicken coop is being planned should be looked in to with care. The ground should be even and needs to be landscaped properly. There are two options here. One can think of landscaping the area which he has already selected for constructing proper chicken coop. one can also buy or select a land which is already having the requisites of proper landscaping that will suit best for the construction of chicken coop. The second option will be certainly cheaper than the first option; there is no doubt on this. But selection of the place is one’s personal preference. If one goes by the first option, the chicken coop built will last long as it will be landscaped by the person there by meeting the requirements of long lasting chicken coop.

Spend money on the base structure

The structural base of the chicken coop should be concentrated upon. Just work on the books that have details of materials to be used for constructing the base structure of the chicken coop. you can easily decide about the material suited for the chicken coop base structure. Never go in for cheaper material as far as base structure of the chicken coop is concerned. This will haunt you in the long run if you are looking for a chicken coop that lasts for long period of time. Your knowledge on the cost effective material that withstands the test of time will come handy at the times likes this.

Make good use of windows

The windows are very important element for the chicken coop as they are the portal for the light and ventilation which is very much required for the birds to lay egg. If the birds are not getting enough light you are going to get in to trouble. Hence plan the windows properly so that the chickens are getting sufficient light and ventilation. If the windows are properly positioned, the cost of the construction also will come down to a great extend. Proper usage of the material will also reduce the cost of the chicken coop without affecting the quality of the chicken coop. the window positioned at wrong place at the coop will not only affect the health of the bird but also result in higher cost of construction and the chicken coop may not be as sturdy as you have planned.

How to Keep Chicken coop Building Cost Down?

In the last article on we discussed about the factors one should keep in mind while deciding about the type of chicken coop one want to build. One should concentrate on keeping the cost of the construction minimum. To do so there are certain key factors that are required to be kept in mind so that the bird’s comforts are not compromised.

In this article we are going to discuss more about the materials required for building the chicken coop. this way you will understand more about the materials that you are going to use for the construction of chicken coop which will reduce the cost of construction considerably. In general many are of the opinion that one need to use costly material to build the coop successfully. But in reality that is not true. For the building of chicken coop one can think of using so many materials like scrap lumber, 50 gallon barrels, recycled materials, old shed, PVC pipes etc.

Most of the people are going in for wood for constructing the chicken coop. there are no qualms in using the wood but the only disadvantage is that it is very costly. Hence one should weigh the pros and cons of using the wood before deciding on that. If you want the chicken coop for long years then you should go about using the wood without any hesitation. There are so many wood varieties available which can be used for building the chicken coop. some woods are very costly and some are not priced high. One can select the wood based on the budget allotted for building the chicken coop.

In case you are planning smaller chicken coop, just recycled timber is more than handy. One can think of using the scrap pieces of wood for building the chicken coop. there is no harm in doing that but one has to use nails to connect the scraps. At times you may not get the desired shape if you use more nails. If you are determined to go in for cost effective chicken coop, you should spend lot time in collecting the information about the materials that can be used to make coop, the type of the material and the cost of the same.

If considerable time is spent on the material selection, nearly half the cost of construction of the chicken coop can be reduced. Once the material is selected one should go ahead with it and should never change the material half way for some reason or the other. If such things are done, the cost of construction will shoot up. Not to ponder much. You can build many types of chicken coop, there is no issue on that but you should be very clear about the requirements of the birds for the best possible performance. It is you who is planning to spend money on the chicken and hence you have every right to build the one that suits you and matches with your interest without affecting the comfort of the chicken. There are certain facts one should take in to consideration before planning the type of the chicken coop. I hope the guide lines listed below will lead to the right path.

Size

The size of the chicken coop is the first and fore most factors one should consider. There are small coops, medium coops and also large chicken coops and each one of the will house fixed number of chicken according to the size. If you try to cramp too many chickens in a coop and that will be a Himalayan blunder and hence never think on those lines. This is very much required as each chicken will require sufficient space to feel them comfortable to lay eggs without any hindrance. The size of the chicken coop can be too big but should never be too small, please remember this. If the chicken coop is too big, you can easily correct this by adding few more chickens.

Portable versus fixed

The next question that will arise is whether to have the chicken coop fixed or to have one that is portable. The portable coops can be moved from one place to the other without much hassle and this type is best suited for the ones who like to have the chicken as pets. The chicken will get fresh floor with each and every movement of the chicken coop. The owner will find it easy for cleaning the chicken coop. In case you are planning chicken coop with structural integrity, then one has to opt for fixed chicken coop as fixed coops will withstand the wear and tear better than portable chicken coop.

Appearance

The appearance of the chicken coop is also very important factor. There is myriad number of designs available as far as the chicken coop design is concerned. The design should be selected to match within the budget you have in hand. As the design is very much related to the money, one should think aloud before selecting the chicken coop design. There are so many cheaper models available. One can select any one of them but care should be taken that such design should never be a discomfort to the birds. Please try to have all the information about the chicken coop well before starting the construction. This will prevent the money being wasted on unwanted delay, change of minor structures etc

Dear friend, I hope the guide lines discussed here, is useful to you for the construction cost effective, comfortable, performance boosting chicken coop.

How to Keep your Chicken Safe?

Do you want to keep your chicken safe? You can simply make your chicken happy by cleaning the coop regularly, an easier time for you and better overall results. You should do this process of complete cleaning of your chicken coop twice per year.

The Cleaning Process

You can clean easily twice a year if your chicken coop is designed properly. It really shouldn't be a huge chore.

You'll want to do a thorough job, when you do clean the coop, which means the cleaning process should include bedding material from nest boxes also.

Try to sweep up each and every loose material from all areas.

You should remove the waterers and feeders from the coop and clean it with perfect disinfectant. If possible dry them in direct sunlight before you put them back.

Regularly check the coop for dryness of litter material, which means you should avoid dampness. Dampness in litter is a precursor of all kind of chicken diseases. Periodically checking the nesting materials to make sure they aren't damp is important.

Some of the backyard chicken raisers don't prefer nesting materials inside the nest box. It is your personal choice. But if you use litter material inside the nest box, you need to make sure it isn't damp.

Do remember that chicken waste is an excellent manure for your composite, lawn and garden. Make use of it properly.

Completely disinfect the coop with proper disinfectants like Bleaching powder after completely removing the litter material. Make sure that you have rinsed everything really well and that it is dry before you let the chickens back in!

This whole cleaning process will hardly take 2 hours. I think you don't mind to spend this couple of hours for every six months to keep your chicken happily in the chicken coop.

If you want to see various designs of chicken coop available to build, please get into this e-book on " HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP".

How to Build Small Chicken Coops?

So,you need small chicken coop plans for your daily fresh egg. If you live in an area where hurricanes or tornadoes regularly threaten, mobile coops can allow you to keep your chickens safe.

You can have your chicken coop on wheels without any fuss if you have less space. More over, you can move the mobile chicken coop all over the garden, you can fertilize your lawn or shrubs with ease. Even cleaning the coop is also found to be easy as you can wheel your mobile chicken coop to the nearest water point.

Another reason you might want to consider a movable coop is you can watch the chickens at all time and also ask your children to take part in chicken coop rearing.

These are the main reasons why many people are now choosing movable chicken coop rather than standard larger ones that stay in one place.

Snake in your Chicken Coop- How to Deal with?

Snake in a chicken coop is a BIG menace in the backyard chicken coop. Getting snakes out of the chicken coop is really a Herculean task. Here you can find three simple ways to get rid of snakes from your chicken coop.

1. Snakes are entering into chicken coop not for eating eggs as most of the snakes are not adopted for this action. They gain entry into the chicken coop for getting enough heat to keep their body warm as they are cold blooded aninal. You cansend the snakesaway from the coop by incremental increasing of the temparature of the room any fire hazards.

2. You can buy a ready made snake repellent Snake-Away, which is readily available in the market. This is most successful among the most of the chicken coop owners. This product is having a gel like substance which sticks at the bottom of the snake. This made the snakes to avoid the place of chicken coop to reside in the cool time of the day.

3. You can build your own snake trap to capture the snake.Take a long PVC pipe with 4 inches dia. The length may be as long as the snake you want to catch. Buy a cheap Funnel that perfectly fits into the pipe i.e the dia of the funnel should be more than that of the pipe dia. Cut the narrow end of the funnel and fix the funnel into the one end of the pipe using duct tape. With duct tape, tape the funnels to the pipe so that the skinny ends are sticking into the inside of the pipe.

Now place the trap where you think the snakes will go- Base boards or any where else. The snakes will get trapped into the pipe as they will not be intelligent enough to back up and lift its head to find its way back.

Have a Happy Snake-free Cooping!!!

Chicken Coop Vs Respiratory Disease

Are you having chicken coop? Then you should aware about the health risks which can affect your family. Yes!!! Our main aim to build a cheap chicken coop is to get fresh and nutritious eggs and chicken meat for our family. But the chicken droppings unattended in the coop may lead to respiratory disease both for the occasional handler as well as the person directly involved in the daily care of the bird.

There are two types of respiratory disease that affect the human beings viz., histoplasmosis and psittacosis (especially affect the daily bird handlers). The persons get infected by these fungi spores, which grow in the droppings. While cleaning the coop, the spores become airborne and infect the chicken coop cleaners.

Symptoms

If a person is infected with any of these diseases, they will develop respiratory distress, dyspnea, and symptoms of flu. If they haven't treated, the condition may progress and leads to pneumonia and death. The person infected with histoplasmosis will loss his eyesight.

Prvention
1. The simple technique to prevent this condition is to remove the chicken droppings daily i.e. when they are fresh. The spores will be developed in the dried droppings only.

2. Before cleaing the chicken coop, do mist the coop with a hose to minimize dust and airborne spores. It is always advisable to wear full-face respirator instead of dust mask as the former won't provide perfect protection against dust.

3. Disposal of chicken droppings should be made properly - Incinerating or burying the chicken droppings is highly recommended.

So, If you do all these, you will be adequately rewarded with hale and healthy body despite having a chicken coop in your backyard. Happy Cooping!!!!

A simple design of chicken coop for predator proof

Are you a small poultry operators? Then you would be the usual victims of predatory birds. Yes!!! Then you should build a chicken coop of predator proof. The major poultry operators keep their birds most of the time in total confinement. That's why their chickens are not being attacked by the predators.

If your area is surrounded by most of the birds of prey like eagles and hawk, the best thing you can do is build a secure enclosure that can serve as the bird's free range area.

If there are birds of prey in your area, like hawks and eagles, then it is a good idea to build a secure enclosure which can serve as the birds’ free range area.

Predator proof chicken coop designs are mostly depends on your flock size, approximately three sq.ft.per bird. If you have 200 birds, for example, your pen size should be at least 30x20 ft in area.

The essential considerations you should keep in mind while keeping and caring for your chickens include adequate food supply, fresh water, clean chicken coop and secured roaming. In addition to this, you should build cheap chicken coop without spending too much of money in building chicken coop.

If you do all these, you'll be blessed with cheap, nutritious, and fresh eggs daily and chicken meat for your family during this period of economic recession.

Raising Chickens - How Important Are Quality Chicken Coop Plans?

To those folks who have never raised chickens before, the whole idea of keeping wild fowl in your back yard all seems a bit strange. They do not realise the amount of dedication of the keepers and the time that is involved in raising these birds from when they hatch until they become full grown adults and beyond is more than keeping a small dog for example.

The rewards for me are far greater though, as the wait for that very first hatched egg becomes reality, it makes the whole experience from choosing and buying a compatible flock, building your coops and chicken arks plus generally tending your chicks 24/7 truly worthwhile.

Choosing compatible breeds is very important and the very first undertaking you have to do before you decide on how best to house your birds. As any farmer will tell you, building a quality home for your chickens is absolutely essential not just for the sake of your flock but for the keeper as well.

Your coop must be practical but designed in such a way as to maximise your birds egg production. It has to be made so that your baby chickens cannot escape when unattended and become exposed to all sorts of predators.

There are also feeding and breeding issues to consider when choosing how to design your chicken house. Do you need a moveable ark as well as a fixed construction that will be able to withstand the rigorous of winter yet be cool enough in a baking hot summer?

There are so many things to consider when constructing your chicken coop that cannot be fully explained in such a short article however I strongly believe that by getting your hands on some high quality, easy to follow plans that include simple step by step instructions on everything from choosing your design to sourcing material, right through to the final build and beyond is the absolute best way to proceed.

Get quality chicken coop plans and you will save so much time and the results will be pure poultry paradise.

Build your coop the easy way. Get Quality chicken coop plans, save a ton of time and get it right first time.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_J_Johnston

chicken coop plan

Top Level Tips To Build A Chicken Coop In Your BackYard

Yester years I have found no one in my street prefer to rear hens. Now, most of the households in my street have built chicken coop in the backyard. I have asked my neighbor she immediately responded and informed that she is building chicken coops because they're easy to keep and will provide fresh eggs for her all year round. So I was convinced and ready to start to build chicken coop on my own.

I searched the Internet and found the following points are important to build a chicken coop in backyard.

1. Safety First

Don't compromise with the safety of your chicken coop because poor safety may lead to loss of chickens form your coop. The main culprits that cause damage to your chickens are weather and foxes in the backyard at night.

You should position the hen coop off the ground and should face the sun so that your coop will get dried off quickly. Your chicken house should have good ventilation especially during hot periods or summer. You should open the windows or door during hot periods to get good ventilation. So you should provide them in the coop.

The outside run should be built in such a way that no other animals can enter into the run area. In addition to this, the run area should be protected with chicken wire, which should be dug deep enough to prevent the entry of predators like Bandicoots.

2. Lighting

Next to ventilation, your chicken requires light. The best way o obtain required light is building the coop in the place where it gets sufficient sunlight during daytime. In addition to this, you should provide proper lighting during night time by providing one ceiling light for a smaller coop that houses 10 chicken or more light for larger coops.

3. Easy Cleaning

You should build chicken coop in such a way that it is amenable for easy cleaning. If you build chicken coop base at a slight angle, you can easily drain out the water after cleaning. You should use a design that help you to clean easily as it will save a lot of hassle in the long run. The wooden chicken coop is the most perfect one for your young chickens.

How To Build Wooden Chicken Coop?

Before building wooden chicken coop, you should know about the size of the coop. If you are going to rear large number of chickens, you need a bigger wooden chicken coop. The major problem with the newbies are they will start with a smaller coop. But the number of chickens will be increased in due course, which will make them to dismantle the current one to switch over to bigger coops. So you should make up your mind to build a larger chicken coops.

Types of Wooden Chicken Coops

At present there are three types of chicken coops. They are-

1. Small and Portable
2. Medium Sized Coop
3. Premium Sized Coop

1. Small and Portable Chicken Coops

This is nothing but a small and simple cage with three sides. This will be perfect gift for the kid who is going to raise 2-3 chickens. But this coop is not a healthy one as the inhabitants will suffer from different diseases due to poor ventilation.

2. Medium Sized Coop

The main advantage of this coop is its portability. This is more or less a cage type of housing for chickens. More over this type is more friendlier to the birds and also help them to produce more eggs than the previous one.

3. Premium Sized wooden Chicken Coop

If you're intended to raise chickens for years together, this is a perfect fit. This is nothing but a huge chicken house with good ventilation for the wellbeing of the birds. You can place required quantity of nest boxes to collect clean and healthy eggs.

So, it is your decision to choose which type of wooden chicken coop for the birds of your preference. Then, this is the high time to get to know about the details of feeders and waterer's in your chicken coop. If you decided the correct size and device for watering and feeding, you can save more time during the day to feed your chickens.

If you want to keep your chicken flock healthy and happy, you should keep the feeding troughs of your chicken coop clean and filled with their favorite foods. If you haven't provide proper feed and water, your chicken would be skinny and bony.

Placement

The chicken waterer's and feeders should be placed conveniently inside the chicken coop for easy access. Moreover, you should place required number of feeders and waterer's to avoid overcrowding of chickens around them. Both the feeders and waterer's should be hung at the average chicken's height in order to avoid wastage as well as preventing them to get dirt. Just make sure to keep the waterer's full of fresh clean water throughout the day.

Chickens are not aware of dirt water or feed. They will consume the contaminated water and feed and will loose their life without giving any output. So you should learn how to place the waterer's and feeders in a recently build chicken coop.

The water and feed should be positioned away from the perch in order to avoid contamination. You can also get DIY water and feeder at the click of the mouse. Yes!!! These are available online also!

If you want a home-made waterer's, you can modify a plastic bucket of 5 gallons capacity to hang them from the top. This is cheap and best for chicken at chicken coop. I have posted the pictures of home made waterer's and feeders below for your easy reference.

If you're going to build your own chicken coop, make sure how you're going to feed and provide water to your chickens. If you're not aware of this procedure, most of the Indian farmers are practicing this method of chicken rearing.

But you should know at what age do chickens have to be before you can let them roam freely and they’ll return to the coop at night.

Generally you can practice this method from the age of 3-4 weeks. Beware!!! You should not practice this method, if you are having wild animals in your area. Don't think that wildlife will not take hens during daylight! So an eye on them during day time also!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

Chicken Coop Building Ideas

Chicken coop building ideas are necessary to build a chicken coop that serves to all the needs of your chicken. In order to raise healthy chickens that in turn yields to get healthy eggs. By doing so we can not only raise healthy chickens that in turn yields to good eggs while we can save a lot of time and money too.

Here are few requirements for an ideal chicken coop idea should meet:

A good chicken coop should ensure that the coop is kept warm, with proper ventilation. If you plan to build a coop during winter then the best idea would be to insulate the walls and ceiling of the chicken coop. They will keep the coop warm throughout the year.

For proper ventilation it is advised to place windows of the coop facing south so as get cool breeze from the south direction.

A good chicken coop should be built at a higher place to keep it safe from flooding due to rains or not to be disturbed while cleaning. And also the chicken coop should not be built in a busy as that would scare the chickens.

A good chicken coop must be built in a wider area so that the chickens feel comfortable in a spacious coop. Don't make mistake of loading the chicken in a smaller area such that the chickens are too close to each other that in turn will lead to suffocation and will also affect their productivity. It is said that, in an ideal chicken coop plan each chicken has 4 square feet of space. For example if you have four chickens then the total space required would be 4'X4'. It is also important to ensure that you have an access inside of the chicken coop. This is where most of the coop plans fail.

You need to enter the coop on a daily basis to feed the chickens, change the water,
collect eggs and most importantly to clean it.

The most important and the challenging task is protection of the chickens. Predators like rodents, cats, fox, and wolf eagerly wait for a chance to pounce on your chickens and have a stupendous meal. A well protected chicken coop will make sure that these predators don't have a chance to even come near your precious chickens.

To have protected chicken coop install locks on the doors and make sure that you keep the coop locked during the night. Cover the ventilation with a wire mesh, making sure that there are no opening for the intruders to enter. Put a fence around the coop with at least 12 inches underneath the ground and 4 ft above the ground so that there is no entrance for the predators.

So friends if you are building your own chicken coop then it is best to work chicken coop plans rather than making it up as you go which will end up spending up double the amount. So think twice about investing in a good chicken coop as it will reap lot of benefits in the long run.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

Dog Family Members That Are Top Chicken Coop Predators

Do you know there are only three breeds of dog that are top chicken coop predators? Yes!!! Chicken coop predators are the most problematic thing for the chicken coop owners. You should know what dog predators you have in your community. The top chicken coop predator breeds of dog are

1. Fox

2. Coyote

3. Domestic dogs of Neighbors

Instead of shooting these predators, provide a trap or keep the coop coyote-proof. Try to build the coop with solid wood because these predators can bite and break the wood to gain entry into the coop to prey the chickens.

Coyote will try to dig hole in the outside area of the coop and try to capture the chicken inside the coop by opening the hole inside the coop. Hence the flooring should be concrete to prevent the burrowing of the floor. More over, if there are any holes inside the hole try to seal the holes with necessary material to prevent the entry of these dreadful chicken coop predators. Happy Cooping!!!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

Things To Think Before Building Chicken Coop Nesting Boxes

Commercially there are many chicken coop nesting boxes existing in the shopping complexes. These boxes are available in different sizes and forms. Do you know you can save few bucks, if you build a nesting box on your own? Yes!!! Ready made chicken coop nesting boxes are costly. More over, they are available as scrub. You need to assemble them. so instead of buying them, you can obtain the materials for building the nesting boxes at much cheap price or at free of cost.

Chicken nest boxes should be designed in such a way that no chicken can perch above the box. This is because, if a chicken ride on the box, it will soil both the nesting boxes as well as the eggs with its droppings. Most of us think that a nesting box is a safe and comfortable place for chicken to lay eggs. It is not so! It should be a clean place for the chickens to sit and lay eggs.

Before building the nesting boxes for chicken coops, you should provide perches for them to use. The perches should be 19 to 25 inches above the ground. Even you can use more than one perch, which resembles a ladder or a stair to give room for more space for the chickens to move.

Nesting Box Sizes

A perfect dimension for a chicken coop nesting box is 12 inches tall, 12 inches deep, and 12 inches wide, which will be able to house 3-5 hens at a point of time.

You should provide various nesting materials ranging from straw, shredded paper or wood shavings inside the nest box to harvest clean and untidy eggs. The nesting box should be kept in a secluded place within a coop with an idea of giving some shade and dark space for the hens to feel comfortable and safe.

Chicken coop nesting box is an important chicken coop kit for better egg production from you back yard chicken. Good plan for nesting is essential as it will increase the efficiency and productivity of the business. Even you can ask your children to get participated in the activity of chicken coop plan building to bring them up as a person with more social interaction. Happy chicken cooping!!!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

How to Choose Perfect Chicken Coop Kits?

Have you ever visited the marketplace to shop a new chicken coop kits? You can easily hose out the debris at least once in 15 days.

Although there few more things to look before starting your own chicken coop, these four chicken coop kits are most important to consider. Happy Cooping!!!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

Common Problems in Buiding Chicken Coop

Nowadays most of the home garden owners prefer to build their own chicken coop. If you're one among them, you came to the right place at right time. Without proper plan, you can't start any building including chicken coop. If you start building chicken coop without plan, you'll end up with numerous problems.

Common Problems

The common problems in building chicken coop are problems with location, problem with lighting and problem with space.

Problem with Location

The chicken coop should be located in the place where there is no stagnation of water during rainy season because your chicken will be subjected to various diseases if they have been exposed to inclement weather.
Problem with light
Providing right sized windows in correct location will help the chickens to get enough light and good ventilation. If the windows are being fitted in wrong position, you need to provide extra lighting by electric bulb which will increase the monthly electricity bill.

Problem with space

You should not compromise with space because space directly affects the egg production. If you provide less space, there is possibility of cannibalism and pecking behavior.

Learn these points and draw a proper plan before start building your own chicken coop, ALL THE BEST!!!

What Are The Perfect Chicken Coop Kits?

I have decided to build my own chicken coop for my family in the backyard. So I Googled and found that an e-book with all details especially with video - how to build a chicken coop is available online. Hats off to CHRIS!

But I found difficulty in choosing perfect chicken coop kits. I researched a lot to find ideal chicken coop kits. I am going to disclosing those hard earned tips for you. They are-

1. Proper Lighting

Lighting is an essential thing for a chicken coop. Most of us think that proper lighting in a coop is to get perfect vision of feed by the chickens. No! Lighting will act as a perfect source of heat during cold seasons.

2. Thick Wire Mesh

This is the next important kit for a coop. The wire mesh should be strong enough to withstand the biting activity of predators. Yes!!! A strong wire mesh protectant will keep pesky predators at bay.

3. Perfect Ventilation

Your chicken require quality air. This can be achieved y proper ventilation only. Even you can provide sliding windows to get pure air for the chickens inside the coop.

4. Perfect Floor

The floor of your coop should be slightly sloped in order to facilitate easy cleaning and easy maintainence. Poor craftmanship and faulty designs can really make your chickens lives as well as your life miserable. Hence don't compromise with the floor. The sloping of the floor will help to hose out the chicken coop very easily as the water will get out the coop immediately, instead of puddling in center.

Be sure to adhere to these things while building chicken coop. If you provide a perfect coop for your chicken, your chickens will provide fresh eggs daily without any hesitant. Happy Cooping!!!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

What Is The Perfect Floor Space In A Chicken Coop?

This is the most asked question by any new chicken coop builder. You should know the answer for this question before planning to build a new chicken coop in your backyard. Your chicken need a perfect floor space to lead a healthy and happy life in its lifetime.

If you are planning to rear 20 chickens, the floor space should be 80 square foot. You should not skimp on space. Yes! If possible you can allocate more space inside the coop to facilitate to rear more chicken in future due course.

In other words, you must provide 4 square foot space per chicken. If you reduce the floor space than the prescribed level, you will end up in various problems including overcrowding, cannibalism, pneumonia and bronchitis.
Never overcrowd your coop! Otherwise, your chickens may lost its quality of life by fighting among themselves and lead to feather picking, which may lead to CANNIBALISM.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

Things To Think Before Selecting Urban Chicken Coop Plans

You may frown your eyebrows when you see the title of this article. You should take utmost care to inspect the construction plans before starting to build a chicken coop.

Though you have spent more money to buy a ready-made coop, it should provide perfect environment for the chickens to lay more eggs. Otherwise it will be waste of material, money and time.

How To Build Comfortable Coop?

It is not a difficult task. You should provide enough space for the chicken to move around (say, 4 sq.ft per chicken). So ascertain the number chickens you're going to rear in the coop before building the same. This will help you to fix the correct floor space of your coop.

If you want more eggs from your chicken, you should provide proper space. Neither more space nor less space will help your chicken to lay more eggs.

Overcrowding will cause the chicken to loss weight and ultimately, there will be loss of egg production.

If you provide more space, the chicken will roam more frequently and the energy will be wasted for the activity and the number of eggs per bird will get reduced. More over, it will consume more feed also.

You can make your chicken more comfortable by providing perch in the coop. The perch should be placed just 8 inches above the ground level. Absence of perches will make the birds to perch on the feeders or in the nesting boxes and it will defecate on the places where you don't want to have them.

You should provide one nesting box per six chickens. This is the thumb rule. Your chicken will feel secure and comfortable, if the chicken box provides dark environment. The nesting material includes straw shavings, which should be 4 inches thickness inside the nest box. Nesting material will help you to get perfect white/brown eggs without any damage.

With these tips and helpful guidelines, you can always make your own chicken coops that are more productive and comfortable.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

How to Build Your Own Chicken Coop Under $150?

Do you know a ready made chicken coop would cost around $1000? But you can build your own chicken coop under $150. By following top ten tips, you can be assured that you will give a safe and healthy environment for your hens.

1. Ascertain the Chicken Coop Size
You should plan the size of the chicken coop well before designing the same. You should know that smaller sized coops are better for limited number of chickens. My advice is go for large sized house because the number of chickens will be increased in future due course (You can increase the number of chickens within few days of start your breeding plan of hens).

2. Don't Spend Lot of Money on a ready made Coop

You will be fascinated with the prebuilt coops. But the builders will include the premium for their services in the rate of the equipment. If you make your own chicken coop, it would be fairly inexpensive than the ready made one.

3. Provide enough space in your Yard

You should provide adequate space in your backyard. This is one of the prerequisite to build a backyard coop.
4. Proper ventilation provision is must

If you want to raise healthy chickens, then you need a fresh supply of clean air. This can be achieved by proper ventilation which will also prevent build up of ammonia and carbon dioxide along the inner walls. Build windows that can be opened and closed.

5. Provide Proper Light

Hens are natural light lovers. Provision of proper light source is must for your chickens to lay plenty of eggs throughout the year. Try to provide light through out the daytime and lightime. Light will induce pituary gland, which inturn help the chicken to start lay in correct time and high number of eggs in the lifetime.

Never under estimates the damage those predators can cause to your chickens. Have proper protection in the house run so that animals cannot dig underground.

5. Make sure predators can’t get in

Predators such as Bandicoots, coons, opposums and, owls can cause damage to your chickens. Hence you should provide proper protection in the house run to avoid digging underground by the predators. More over, you should build the chickencoop on an elevated platform and also try to build a fence about one foot deep in order to prevent the predators entry into the coop.

6. Proper positioning of the feeders -

The thumb rule for placing feeders in the coop is 10-15 centimetres above ground. If you place the feeder lesser than this measurement, you'll notice more crowd around the feeder and there is possibility of more wastage. If you increased the height of the feeder more than this, the larger birds will tend to take more feed than the shorter one.

7. Building the coop off the ground

This is an excellent idea. Yes!!! Building a coop above the ground level will help your chickens to produce more eggs and also get prevented from natural predators.

8. Select the suitable construction materials

You should take into account your local climate before selecting the construction material. If you are living in the warmer year-round climates, you should use wire walls or doors, but if you live in cold climate and wet for part of the year, build insulated wall as well as a solid one. This decision will make your chicken to live stress-free environment.

9. Adequate Floor space is essential

The normal floor space per chicken is 4 sq.ft. Try to adhere to this floor space. Don't compromise with the floor space! This will help to stop your chickens from stressing due to cramping.

10. Perch for your Chickens

You should give ample space for building a perch (roost) for sleeping of your chicken within the coop. This will help your chickens to sleep well as well as lay more eggs. Try to use perfect smooth lumber for building a roost.

In the maintainence of the chicken coop, cleaning is considered to be most time consuming activities. Giving proper slanting in the floors will help your cleaning job of the coop very easy. In nutshell, you should consider predator control, ease of cleaning and proper ventilation in your chicken coop.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN CHICKEN COOP

y4q3avf7nr

Optimal Egg Yields Are Directly Proportional to Best Chicken Coop

Wanna continuous optimal egg yield on long-term basis from your hen? It is also called as a chicken shack or chicken house by few chicken breeders.

Chicken Coop Materials

Most of the chicken breeders build their own chicken coop using wood, straw, and chicken wire. These materials can easily be available at your local lumber / hardware store. When I built my first chicken coop with my children, I used a few wood pieces and tiny frame of chicken wire at the top.

Actually we built this simple chicken coop for two new day old chicks we got from the nearby farm. I redesigned my chicken coop as our flock grew after reading a simple e-book on "How to build your own chicken coop?"

I inquired the near-by store for buying a ready-made chicken coop. The cost of each chicken coop ranging from $200 to $500 dollars range.

I refused to procure those overrated chicken coops from the store and constructed a coop with raised platform. I succeeded and for the past few days, I am raising pet chickens effortlessly. By this process of building my own chicken house, I saved nearly 250 dollars, which is a big money during this economic crisis period.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE E-BOOK ON HOW TO BUILD CHICKEN COOP

Happy Cooping!!!

How To Build A Simple Chicken Coop?

If you're a person who is going to rear few chicken, you may ask - How to build a simple chicken coop.
