How to Build a Chicken Coop with a Good Drainage System?

I can’t stress on the importance of a good drainage system to ensure you do not have a muddy run. In no way do I mean you must install a complex and intricate drainage system but it definitely does help to take a few precautions.

Mud can result from a snowmelt or a thunderstorm runoff which can have some health issues for your chickens such as bumble foot or even internal parasites. The best way to overcome this issue is to build the chicken coop on a high ground which will eliminate the problem entirely.

You should also ensure that you build gutters on all the roofs and preferably select a chicken coop design with a sloping roof to avoid any collection of rain on the roof. A simple solution could also be to simply dig a trench and line it with some piping to intercept the water before it reaches the coop.
